Info
I saw two children on my way to lunch today searching for a coin at the dirty muddy irrigation using only with their bare hands without a hand gloves or plastic that can cover their hands. Their feet also soaked on the black polluted water that even in just a look without any knowledge of how dangerous how it can affect to health and to skin diseases you can tell.
At first, I was thinking someone is ordering them to pick those gravel and plastics blocking the flow of the water on the irrigation/canal. I talked to the person inside the store beside the irrigation and asked, why would someone tell or order this children to do such a risky, humiliating job. It’s a violation against Republic act 7610 or Anti-Child Abuse law. They are supposed to be at school. But then she told me that they are looking for a coin that somehow at the least possible they can find. So I asked the children to stop what they’re doing and they don’t even bother me as if they do not hear and see me.
As they continue what they're doing, I can’t help myself looking at them and did nothing. So I told and explain them that “dong makadaot raba na” (kid it’s bad for your health). And guess what their reply. “Ok raman mi mamatay” (It’s ok for us to die). While looking at them helplessly, I walk away with the thought how I could help those children. By then, I come up with this idea to write to share it with you hoping for a help to start a little change of the lives of those children.
I mean, not only to those children but also to those we always see every day that need care, family and love. It’s not because we can eat at least 3 times a day, we have family and good bed to sleep we are way better than them and don’t care for their lives. We should think that we are also responsible for their now and future, because whatever they become it will lead back to our community and society.
I know we are bombarded this thought every day, and I know I don’t have the position to say these things out because even me, I really don’t know the exact thing to do. But please for those concerned families of these and those children or if none, any individual, institution that could help, they need us.
