THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) will start the registration of regular voters for the barangay elections on August 1 to 10 and on August 6 to 15 for the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) voters.
Comelec Provincial Supervisor Jessie Suarez said a seminar workshop for election assistants will be conducted on July 27 in preparation for the barangay and SK elections in October.
Personnel from the Comelec Manila will conduct the seminar workshop for the technical aspect and Suarez will handle the orientation on some rules for the barangay and SK elections.
About 31 CVL Cleansing computers have arrived early this week that will be distributed to the different towns and cities after the seminar, Suarez said. Read rest of story

THE Cebu City Council urged national legislators to decide whether the barangay and youth elections should push through in October this year or be postponed.
Councilor Nida Cabrera said the conduct of regular elections is “the essence of democracy” since it gives people the power to choose which officials should serve them.
“Considering the cloud of doubt and confusion among barangay officials and would-be aspirants, not to mention its effect on public service, it is but appropriate for Congress to tackle with urgency the issue on whether or not to push through with the nationwide synchronized barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections,” said Cabrera.
Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri recently filed Senate Bill 60, which seeks to defer the elections to October 2012, “to address the issue of effective governance and implementation of long-term projects nationwide.” Read rest of story
