Mass site 70% ready; Calungsod tour starts Friday

CEBU CITY — About P10 million has been spent on preparations for a nationwide celebration in honor of a newly proclaimed Filipino saint, Pedro Calungsod, at the South Road Properties (SRP) in Cebu City.

Pilgrims say Calungsod canonization was ‘awesome’

Long waits that lasted three hours or more failed to dampen the excitement felt by thousands of Cebuanos who witnessed Sunday the mass where Pedro Calungsod became a saint.

Toledo City Vice Mayor Arlene Espinosa-Zambo said she felt inspired and fulfilled at the rite of canonization, and expressed hope that it will draw the youth closer to God. Read the rest of this entry

Work starts on ‘holy, historic’ site

THE construction work officially started yesterday on the site of the national thanksgiving mass for the sainthood of Blessed Pedro Calungsod.

Countdown starts for Pedro Calungsod canonization

Roman Catholic leaders in Cebu and Metro Manila launched on Saturday the celebration of “100 days of grace” until the country’s second saint, Blessed Pedro Calungsod, is officially recognized.

Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma led the launch at the Fuente Osmeña in Cebu City of the countdown to October 21, when Calungsod will be canonized with six other blessed persons by Pope Benedict XVI in Rome. Read the rest of this entry

City police prepare security plans for Calungsod

THE deployment of 500 Reserve Officers Training Course cadets and police officers are among the security preparations set by the Cebu City Police Office for the National Thanksgiving Day of Blessed Pedro Calungsod in November.
