CBCP official hopes Philippines will have more ‘Pedros’

AN OFFICIAL of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) expressed hopes that the canonization of Blessed Pedro Calungsod Sunday would spur the revival of the time when parents name their children after saints.

In an interview, CBCP – Episcopal Commission on Youth (ECY) Executive Secretary Fr. Conegundo Garganta said it would also be a good way to honor and commemorate the introduction of the second Filipino saint if newborn children will be named after him. Read the rest of this entry

Mass production of Calungsod image still a work in progress

THE number of images and statues of Blessed Pedro Calungsod remains limited even a week before his canonization, an official of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said Sunday.

CBCP Assistant Secretary General Fr. Marvin Mejia said they are still working on mass producing the official image of Calungsod to make it available to the public. Read the rest of this entry

Calungsod takes spotlight in bi-annual bishops meet

THE forthcoming canonization of Blessed Pedro Calungsod is expected to take center stage in the 105th Plenary Assembly of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) Saturday at the Pope Pius XII Catholic Center in Paco, Manila.
