San Pedro Calungsod’s help sought for son’s recovery

THE family of Cebu Provincial Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) leader Aladdin Caminero prayed to San Pedro Calungsod for his complete recovery after his operation last Tuesday at South General Hospital in the City of Naga.

The SK leader was involved in a car accident last week in Barangay Binlod, Argao, Cebu. He suffered fractures in his left thigh bone and left wrist and a head injury. Read the rest of this entry

10,000 seats set for Calungsod pilgrims during mass

About 10,000 pilgrims from various dioceses outside Cebu Province are expected to attend the national thanksgiving mass at the South Road Properties (SRP) at the end of the month.

Pedro Calungsod parish in Cebu wants to be shrine

Renaming a Toledo parish as National Shrine of San Pedro Calungsod is being considered after at least 15,000 pilgrims and devotees went to the church last Sunday.

Churches all over Philippines celebrate a day of great joy

The names of San Pedro Calungsod, Filipino lay catechist, and six new saints were included Sunday in the list of those the Catholic Church has declared intercessors in heaven.

It was a day of joy for thousands of Cebuanos who attended the canonization mass that lasted for more than three hours, and millions of others who viewed the televised broadcast in their parishes, homes and inside the compound of the Archbishop’s Residence in Cebu City. Read the rest of this entry

Pilgrims say Calungsod canonization was ‘awesome’

Long waits that lasted three hours or more failed to dampen the excitement felt by thousands of Cebuanos who witnessed Sunday the mass where Pedro Calungsod became a saint.

A TV news anchor Friday asked in a live phone talk with a Cebuano priest who was in Rome: How many saints are there and how does the new Filipino saint rank among them?

Nalzaro: San Pedro Calungsod

THE long and tedious process of beatification and canonization has finally ended for Visayan martyr Pedro Calungsod. He was declared a saint by Pope Benedict XVI in a historic and emotion-filled rites late yesterday afternoon (Philippine time) at the St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City. The event was attended by thousands of pilgrims from the Philippines and other countries. Aside from Calungsod, there were six other beatos who were canonized: Blessed Marianne Cope of Molokai and founder of the Sisters of St. Francis of Syracuse; Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha of New York, a companion of the Jesuit missionaries in North America; Blessed Jacques Berthieu of France, a Jesuit missionary in Magadascar, who was martyred; Blessed Geovanni Battista Piamarta of Italy, founder of the Holy Family of Nazareth; Blessed Maria Carmen Salles y Barangueras of Spain and founder of the Missionaries Sisters of the Immaculate Conception; and Anna Schaffer of Germany, a lay woman and mystic.
