Palace denies trying to please Senate President

MALACAÑANG denied Wednesday that the administration did not reappoint a member of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to please Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile.

Enrile, who heads the Commission Appointment (CA), was allegedly opposing the permanent appointment of Commissioner Augusto Lagman due to “vote-trending” in favor of the candidates of then President Corazon Aquino in the 1987 senatorial polls where the senator was at the bottom at that time.

“No, it has nothing to with that,” Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office Secretary Ricky Carandang said in a news briefing when asked regarding reports that Malacañang acceded to Enrile’s demand to secure his vote on Corona’s impeachment. Read rest of story
