Aquino yet to take side on juvenile law

PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III has yet to take a stand on proposals to lower the age of criminal liability of youth offenders, Malacañang said Saturday.

“It is something we need to discuss with the President. (When the issue) reaches President Aquino, that is when we can give an assessment because the President will need to hear both sides,” Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said over state-run dzRB radio.

In a statement released Friday, Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Leila de Lima and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Dinky Soliman rejected proposals from Congress to lower the age of criminal liability from 15 years old to nine. Read rest of story
