PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III’s plan to impose higher fares in Metro Manila’s three railway systems and levy the value-added tax (VAT) on toll fees was met with sharp opposition in the Senate.
Backed no less than by Senate President Juan Ponce-Enrile, Senate Resolution 602 urged Malacañang to defer the fare hike in the Light Rail Transit and the Metro Rail Transit systems and the imposition of the VAT on tolls in South Luzon, North Luzon, Subic-Tarlac, and Subic Freeport expressways.
The resolution was filed by Senators Manny Villar, Joker Arroyo and Ralph Recto, an administration lawmaker. Read rest of story
