The hunger rate in the country is down by five percent, or from 20.5 percent in March to 15.1 percent this June, President Benigno Aquino III said in his address to the nation Monday.
Before a joint session of Congress, Aquino also said his anti “wang-wang” (car siren) policy has translated into a fight for what is right and into an intolerance for government abuses.
The reduction in the hunger rating was equivalent to a million Filipino families who used to go hungry, but who now say they eat properly every day.
Aquino said, through the initiative and leadership of Social Welfare Secretary Dinky Soliman, assistance has been given to an average of more than 100,000 families per month. (Read full story)
