MANILA — Security officials said safety measures are in place to ensure a smooth conduct of the second State of the Nation Address (Sona) of President Benigno Aquino III Monday.

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Alan Purisima said on Sunday that five police security task forces will take care of the security measures, traffic preparations, as well as coordination with the City Government of Quezon City and other government agencies to ensure a peaceful Sona.

“Nakahanda na kami para sa Sona at nakalatag na ang mga security preparations (We are ready for the Sona),” Purisima said, adding the entire NCRPO is under full alert status.

Under a full alert status, all leaves, furloughs and rest and recreation of policemen are cancelled to ensure that they are prepared to respond on a round-the-clock basis to any emergency situation.

Authorities said 7,000 policemen will be deployed in Metro Manila during the Sona. An augmentation force of P1,800 will come from the police regional offices in Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Bicol. (Read full story)
