OVER 200 political detainees across the Philippines will go on a three-day fast beginning Friday to press President Benigno Aquino III to release them.
Cristina Guevarra, secretary general of militant group Hustisya, reiterated their call of a “general, omnibus and unconditional amnesty” for all political prisoners, majority of them were brought to jail by the previous administration.
On Friday, Hustisya will join the families of political prisoners and other human rights groups in a protest action in front of the Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City in support of the nationwide fasting.
The fasting will end on July 25, in time for President Aquino’s State of the Nation Address (Sona) before members of Congress and the public. (Read full story)
