Boracay Water recognized in first ever Boracay Day

WATER and wastewater operator Boracay Water was recently recognized by the Municipality of Malay during Boracay’s Inaugural Day for the company’s valuable contribution in promoting the Island’s sustainability, most especially for being the water and wastewater champion in Malay’s Boracay Beach Management Program (BBMP).

The water company is one of the four private companies that were recognized during the celebration. The other companies were San Miguel Corporation, Boracay Foundation Inc., and Petron Foundation Inc. Continue reading

CEBU-BASED GT Cosmetics Manufacturing is now set to push through with its market-expansion plan to the Middle East and other Muslim countries after its beauty products and production methods have been tested and declared permissible by an internationally-recognized Halal certification body.

Nestlé, Agri office to bring the latest coffee farming technologies closer to Bukidnon farmers

RECOGNIZING the potential of Bukidnon as a top coffee-producing province, Nestlé Philippines Inc. (NPI) has partnered with the Northern Mindanao Agricultural Research Centre (NOMIARC) of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 10 (DA-10) in the production and distribution of high-quality Robusta plantlets and cuttings, bringing the high-yielding coffee plants closer to thousands of small-farmers in Bukidnon and nearby provinces within the region.

Speaking at the sidelines of the 19th DA-NOMIARC Farmers’ Field Day and Technology Forum in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon, NPI Agriculture head Arthur Baria said they are looking to tap Bukidnon as a “coffee basket” where Nestlé can directly source high-quality Robusta coffee beans. Continue reading

McDonald’s donates 398 old phones, accessories to ‘i-rEcover, i-rEcycle’

FOR the second time since the launch of i-rEcover, i-rEcycle program a year ago, McDonald’s Philippines again donated hundreds of old cellular phones, batteries, and chargers to support the recycling program initiated by Nokia Philippines, Globe Telecom, Ayala Foundation Inc., and Philippine Tarsier Foundation Inc. (PTFI).

The new donation of 398 items was in addition to the 613 defective mobile phones and accessories that McDonald’s turned over in November 2011, bringing the total to 1,011. Continue reading

Decent work for domestic workers ‘now a reality’

VISAYAN Forum, a Philippine-based non-government organization against modern slavery, celebrated the formal registration of the Philippine ratification of International Labor Organization (ILO) Convention 189 last September 5, optimistic that this will make decent work for domestic workers a reality.

With the convention set to enter into force a year after the Philippines’ ratification, Ma. Cecilia Flores Oebanda, executive director of the Visayan Forum, praised the leadership of the Philippines in the advocacy for stronger protection of Filipino domestic workers here and abroad.
