Veejay Floresca’s fashion farewell at Prive luxury club

VEEJAY Floresca, a talented young designer whom I met at a birthday dinner at Le Souffle, even before he became as popular as he is now, has always remained humble, and easy to talk to. Their video became viral as he and his friends uploaded their video watching the Miss Universe contest when Venus Raj represented the Philippines two years ago – their video has a little over three million hits. The video is just the tip of the iceberg in showing that Veejay has passion – both for the connecting worlds of beauty and fashion.

I went to Prive Luxury Club to show my support as the local designer bids a temporary farewell to the Philippines with a final capsule collection.

Floresca will be departing for San Francisco to pursue further studies in fashion design, bringing him one step closer to achieving his dreams of international success.

The festivities kicked off with the Zombettes’ Sanya Smith titillating guests with an eclectic playlist. Shortly after a short presentation from event sponsor Jockey, a fashion film by Ynigo Santos was shown to the audience. The video showcased several of Floresca’s most popular works modeled by Jessica Yang. Yang worked with Floresca on her very first project in the Philippines as a model, bringing things full circle on the night of Floresca’s last show in this chapter of his career.

Visions of the past gave way to Floresca’s future as his latest designs graced the runway. Inspired by the Golden Gate Bridge, the ten-dress collection he introduced at the Prive Style Series featured strong structural forms and criss-cross lines reminiscent of the towering landmark. Each new piece was modeled by muses hand-picked by Floresca himself.

Standing front and center among the muses were GMA talents Louise delos Reyes and Kris Bernal. Delos Reyes, who is currently enjoying a successful run on One True Love, is an avid fan of Floresca’s work.

“Veejay designs clothes that are flattering to a woman’s body,” she says of the designer. “The dress I wore had an amazing fit!”

Bernal, on the other hand, felt a kinship with Floresca given how their careers started out. While Bernal found her spot in the limelight as a finalist in StarStruck, Floresca made waves in the Top Three of Project Runway Philippines.

The star of the upcoming Coffee Prince had nothing but well-wishes for Floresca: “It was really an honor to be one of his muses, especially since I’m such a fan of his work. I wish him good luck on his studies! I’m sure he’ll wow us again when he comes back.”

Marketing and Twitter friend Janthina Fong of Jewelmer rocked in her outfit. Fit and fabulous Ruby Gan of Schu Bar and Myth, Chinese businesswoman Salome Uy and Meryll Yan of One Mega Group rounded out the list of Floresca’s muses. The designer later joined his muses onstage to express his gratitude to both them and his guests.

Spotted at the party were some of Metro Manila’s fashion and social elite, including Congressman Owen Singson, young and talented designers Eric de los Santos and Martin Bautista, and entrepreneurs and good friends GP Reyes and Erik Cua, Jockey’s creative and pretty marketing woman in charge Claudine del Rosario, Manila Bulletin’s Marbee Go, indefatigable party duo Ryan Singh and Richard Alarcon.

With undeniable talent and invigorating ambition, the next chapter in Veejay Floresca’s career promises even more graces in his life. It was clear to see at the Prive Style Series that the Philippine fashion world shares his excitement.
