IF YOU only have one night in Hong Kong, Wander Woman will teach you how to party. The place to go to is still Lan Kwai Fong in the Central area.
If you had more time, I would suggest different lounges where you can have drinks overlooking the city. However, since you only have one night to go out, the place to kick back and relax is at Lily. The inspiration for Lily is the Parisian salons of the 1900s. There are a trinkets and elements of design from travel, ships, and memories of pre war supper clubs. There are old school lounge sofas facing the bar surrounded by vintage stools. Lily’s cocktail menu serves tasty treats not commonly found on bar chows in Manila. The New England Lobster Roll uses lobster from Maine mixed with celery and mayo. The Garlic bread Reloaded is baguette that comes with 4 cheeses melted in a clay pot and seasoned with 23 garlic cloves! The mini tacos made with either beef flank steak or baja fish fillets are a good choice, too. Cocktails are traitors but the bartenders at Lily do them so well I had to have some. The Pineapple -mint Julep sounds like a harmless punch but it is made with an 8-year-old bourbon, with house-made raspberry vinegar peppered with pineapple and mint. The Zacapa Old fashioned is orange and angostura bitters mixed with 23 yr old rum.
After Lily, head off to Fly where an outdoor porch complete with a fancy swing welcomes you. As you have done drinking some fancy cocktails, I suggest you drink the real stuff now. Fly has an extensive drink list from Russian vodka to tequila patron. The music at Fly will get you in the mood for dancing as they play mash up songs. The 3500 square feet dance floor is yours for the taking. There is a “back room” where the clubber’s senses would be enhanced through hearing, seeing and feeling the music. Floor to ceiling LED wall displaying graphics and videos add to your clubbing experience. Other playful features, such as handle-like wall features, a pseudo dancing pole, raised flooring and even tables that could be used as dancing platforms are also key elements to the spatial planning of the room to entice clubbers’ interaction with the music and vibe. Graffiti work by famed French graffiti artist, L1ES ONE, on two of the back walls act as backdrops to this urban music playground.
The last stop of the night definitely has to be Volar. If you did not catch Edward Norton in Manila, you might see him in Volar, as he had been spotted here. Other celebrities have been partying in Volar, too when they are in Hong Kong. Jeremy Scott, Chris Evans, Josh Hartnett, Kobe Bryant, Kanye West, and the gorgeous Sting. The night I was there a weekend back, Jean-Claude van Damme was there. Volar, in its seven years of existence, catering only to exclusive members, is an institution in Hong Kong.
