THIS Yuletide 2011, here are my top treats I would like to gift my friends. This year has been a year of wonderful discoveries. I got to be invited to a couple of great restaurants to try, got to sample goodie treats here and there, got to try a few of the best spa treatments and so on.
So for this week’s column, I am going to share with you my top five yummy discoveries that are perfect to give this Christmas (in no particular order).

1. Dimpy’s is a home-baking business of Dimpy Camara, a young looking mom who is credited for inventing the frozen brazo de mercedes. The frozen brazo caused quite a stir and have been copied by other bakers, so this year, Dimpy has come up with her new piece de resistance-her chocolate cake (P400)! Her chocolate cake is a gooey chocolaty goodness that will surely be a hit if you give away. People love its real chocolate taste. Dimpy has also come up with the best tasting banana walnut muffins (P350 for a dozen) with the most delicious mix of sweet, and crunchy in a bigger than the usual cupcake size. Dimpy’s cakes will come in her tiffany blue box which oozes with so much class and appeal. I highly recommend the chocolate cake and the box of muffins as your yuletide gift.
2. Madonna Cuisine’s uber tasty lechon de leche will be a hit to bring to Christmas parties because no one can resist a good looking lechon! And Cebuanos know this too well. Madonna’s lechon de leche is roasted with all natural ingredients that bring out the best tasting lechon de leche i have tasted this year. So I highly recommend this lemon grass infused piglet and you will be the star of your barkada reunion or office party
3. Marriott hotel’s Java cafe has the best tasting cookies to give away. They are humongous sized cookies that come in strawberry white chocolate flavor, cinnamon flavor, pistaschio white chocolate chip flavor which is my favorite! Java’s apple crumble and cherry flan comes in bigger than the usual tart size and are perfect to gift as well. The apple is made with nicely stewed apples topped with crunchy crumbs, while the cherry flan is made with real cherries embedded in a leche flan like body that is tangy, yet tasty. The chocolate blocks with almonds are super good, too!

4. Farm’s Best artisan breads are a great discovery this 2011. For me, they make the best raisin walnut batard that is low in sugar but high in taste. Farms Best do not use preservatives as much as possible, thus you can consider them healthy. And they make low sugar or sugar free breads as well. They have come up with the longganisa pandesal with longganisa from Pampanga, considered the Philippines’ longganisa capital. They also have cinnamon breads, and sesame breads served in pastry boxes that will be great to give out.

5. If you haven’t heard of Carmen’s Best Pure Indulgence ice cream, you must be living in the boondoks! Their salted caramel is literally the bomb! And the butter pecan flavor is also a good flavor to order. All their ice cream flavors are made with natural milk that comes in their own company dairy farms so you are rest assured of quality to the highest level. They are proudly Philippine made and uses the highest quality cream and milk. Run by entrepreneur Paco Magsaysay, son of Senator Ramon Magsaysay Jr., expect nothing less than gourmet and uber delicious ice creamHere are my suggestions for gift giving this 2011.
