AFTER coming back from a European sojourn that included the Czech Republic, I was ecstatic to find out that Dusit Thani hotel in Manila was going to have a Czech culinary and culture festival. You see, Czech Republic, especially its capital, Prague, is one awesome place that one has to see. They were able to preserve their architectural buildings, and the city center itself is only toured by foot.
Prague is situated on the north west part of the country where is it separated by the Vltava river. It was an important seat of the Austrian Hungarian empire. Many attractions are worth visiting like the Prague Castle (but i warn you-be ready for the tiring walk up), the Charles Bridge where you can walk amidst artists, and booths selling silver jewelry, or artists willing to sketch your face for a fee. The posts on the Charles Bridge are remarkable. The Jewish Quarter is a poignant place to visit. Since Prague has an extensive and well preserved monuments, it has been named as one of the World Heritage Sites of Unesco.
Here in Manila, Dusit Hotel brings in the charm of the Czech Republic by introducing to us the wonders of Czech cuisine. The hotel will showcase a gastronomic landscape of Czech favorites that include South bohemian headcheese with spring onion and Czech vinegar, Old bohemian potato soup with forest mushrooms, Fried ham roll with fresh horseradish and Znojmo cucumber basket, Chicken a la pheasant, potato balls and red cabbage, Beef medallion in cream sauce with bread dumplings and cranberries, Piquant beef goulash with Carlsbad dumplings, Fried perch with home-made potato salad, Strawberry dumplings with cottage and cream, amongst others.
Lovers of great cuisine are in for a gustatory feast as the Embassy of Czech Republic brings to Manila, courtesy of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Prague’s very own pride and award-winning chef, Vladimir Salansky.
Chef Salansky, a gentleman with 41 years of invaluable experience specializing in the authentic Czech palate – is a well travelled, reputable authority in the area of Czech cuisine. To date, he has managed 20 restaurants & hotels in Prague and has organized more than 200 exhibitions in various countries such as Colombia, Argentina, Mexico, Italy, Germany, Chile.
Chef Salansky’s gift in cooking and attention to details conjure up excellent food from a handful of top-quality ingredients; His specialties guarantee to transform any discerning taste bud into a true believer of Czech cuisine.
Furthermore, he has also won numerous awards, including recognition from some of the industry’s most prestigious entities. Amongst which, a gold medal for Czech restaurants pour la restoration des products d’origine during Es des, Arts Menegers Brusel in 1996 and one was of the top 3 finalists for the caterer of the World EXPO 2005 in Hanover, Germany. With these credentials, I suggest you try to go to Dusit hotel within the week. If you can’t travel yet to Czech Republic, at least your tastebuds can have the taste of the country’s culinary gems while in Manila.
