COMPOSTING has always been the byword of organic farmers and gardeners, but regular households who live in tiny spaces know how stinky that can become before you can even have a good amount of compost fertilizer. Garbage, too, is the waterloo of just about every local government unit. While every garbage trader would want to

In this photo are garbage belonging to people in the squatters area or outside the subdivision. Even if there is a warning sign that says “Bawal ilabay ang basura,” they still dump their garbage there.
I won’t anymore report to barangay because they don’t have any action, and aside from that, they don’t keep private matters. They will be the one who will tell the people here who report this matter, putting the concerned citizen’s life in trouble.
This photo was taken in Candau-ay, Dumaguete City. The smoke brought by the dumpsite has been an issue for three weeks now. It started the last time it rained. We even sought help from the fire station five times to extinguish the fire. We’ve contacted Cenro, the local officials, the city administrator and even aired our sentiments over the radio but to no avail. They said they are trying to find ways to resolve the dumpsite issues in the area. I understand that it is impossible for the dumpsite to close the soonest.
Ang sa amin lang naman, ma extinguish muna ang usok na non-stop naming hinihinga for several days now! (Contributed by Melody C. Prado)
