THE 45-DAY ban on carrying firearms and employing security personnel in public will officially start tomorrow, September 28, the start of the election period for the barangay elections on October 28.
“Pursuant to Comelec Resolution No. 9715 which prescribed the calendar of activities and period of prohibited acts in connection with the October 28, 2013 Barangay Elections, gun ban will be imposed beginning September 28, 2013 until November 12, 2013,” according to the official website of the Commission on Elections (Comelec). THE Provincial Comelec Office is now making preparations, in case the barangay elections nationwide pushes through as scheduled in October this year.
Lawyer Wil Arceno, Acting Provincial Comelec Supervisor, said that Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes only made a recommendation for the postponement of the barangay election to another date because they are not yet through with the recently concluded May 13 elections. Read the rest of this entry
SECRETARY Herminio B. Coloma Jr. of the Presidential Communications Operations Office revealed Friday that the barangay elections may push through as scheduled in October 2013.
Coloma said that Sixto Brillantes, Comelec chair, has expressed disagreement over the postponement of the barangay elections as it may mean that it would be held to a date which would be closer to the coming presidential elections in May 2016. Read the rest of this entry
