Postponement of SK polls ‘should be made long ago’

PHILIPPINE Councilor’s League (PCL) national president Alma Moreno–Salic said on Tuesday that the postponement of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections should have been decided long before, and not several weeks before the intended election.

She made the personal stand as PCL is yet to come up its common stand about the issue on the postponement of the SK election. Salic said she sympathizes with the SK leaders who have formed their own slate and started campaigning in their respective areas. Read the rest of this entry

Negros Occidental voters up by 3.82%

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL voters for the October 28 barangay elections are up by 3.82 percent compared to those who participated in the Last May 13 elections.

Based on the records of the Provincial Commission on Election (Comelec) office, Negros now has 1,635,676 voters after the respective Election Registration Board have conducted hearings after the registration of voters. Read the rest of this entry

Lacson ready for 1st session

NEWLY-ELECTED Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said that the new Provincial Board (PB) is ready for the distribution of committees and adaption of House Rules during its inaugural session Wednesday next week.

Candidates reminded to submit election expenses

LAWYER Wil Arceno, Commission on Elections (Comelec) acting provincial supervisor, said that all candidates in the May 13 elections are required to submit their statements of contributions and expenditures.

Abang Lingkod party-list disqualified with finality

STEPHEN Paduano a.k.a. Carapali Lualhati, the No. 1 nominee of Abang Lingkod, is still hoping for a favorable decision of the Supreme Court for the party’s inclusion among the party-lists in the May 13 elections.

Comelec braces for barangay polls

THE Provincial Comelec Office is now making preparations, in case the barangay elections nationwide pushes through as scheduled in October this year.

La Castellana now among election ‘areas of concern’

THE municipality of La Castellana in Negros Occidental is now included in the list of “areas of concern” of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), following Sunday’s ambush in Barangay Puso that killed nine persons.

Grupo Progreso supports Gasataya

BACOLOD City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, Nationalist People’s Coalition district chairman and congressional candidate of the party, and Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson, mayoralty candidate, said their party fully supports vice mayoralty candidate Greg Gasataya in his bid for the post.
