Arroyo administration blamed for Scarborough standoff

A party-list group blamed Thursday the administration of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo for a naval standoff between Philippines and China in the disputed West Philippine Sea citing the Baselines Law signed in 2009.

The two nations were locked in a political and military impasse on Tuesday after the Philippine Navy tried to arrest eight Chinese fishing vessels that were conducting “illegal fishing activities” inside the Scarborough shoal. (more)
