Militants to stage anti-PNoy, anti-Sona rally

VARIOUS militant groups are expected to rally around government offices in Davao City today, July 28, in line with the 5th State of the Nation Address (Sona) of President Benigno Simeon Aquino III.

Althea Amoguis, spokesperson for the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan, in a program list emailed to the media Sunday, said the nationwide protest dubbed as “Enough of BS Aquino”, is expected to be bigger due to the controversial Disbursement Allocation Program (DAP) of the present administration. July 29 declared holiday to observe Eid’l Fitr

MANILA — President Benigno Aquino III has declared July 29, Tuesday, a nationwide regular holiday in observance of Eid’l Fitr, or the end of Ramadhan. The President made the announcement through Proclamation No. 826 on Monday. Aquino hits SC over DAP ruling

MANILA (Updated) – President Benigno Aquino III did not hide on Monday his displeasure over the Supreme Court (SC) decision declaring key parts of the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) unconstitutional.

Aquino hit the justices for not taking into account the government’s arguments that he can realign funds to speed up economic growth and delivery of social services.

Speaking from Malacañang, Aquino said Section 39 of the Administrative Code of 1987 allows him to use savings to cover for any deficit in the appropriations authorized by the national budget. Read more

Aquino rejects Abad’s resignation

MANILA (3rd Update) — President Benigno Aquino III said Friday that Budget Secretary Florencio Abad submitted his resignation on Thursday but he rejected it.

The resignation stemmed from the Supreme Court (SC) ruling that declared parts of Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) as unconstitutional.

“Yesterday (Thursday) Secretary Abad gave me a letter tendering his resignation from the Cabinet and I have considered the same and I have decided not to accept his resignation and let me explain why,” the Chief Executive said in a short message during the 2015 budget presentation at the Aguinaldo State Dining Room in Malacañang.
