Mayor thanks Bacoleños for world-class MassKara

MAYOR Evelio Leonardia thanked the people of Bacolod for their unity and cooperation in making the 33rd MassKara Festival a success and for transforming it into a world-class festival.

No less than the international news channel Cable News Network (CNN) named Bacolod’s MassKara Festival as “one of the 12 best things in the Philippines,” he said.

“Thank you to all sectors for your cooperation. With all your support, we have transformed the MassKara into an icon of the Philippines and a world-class festival,” Leonardia said in his message at the closing rites of the 22-day celebration at the Bacolod public plaza last night (Oct. 22). Police: MassKara Festival celebration peaceful

THE 33rd MassKara Festival celebration was generally peaceful, with no major incidents recorded in different festival sites in Bacolod City, the police said Tuesday.

Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) Director Ricardo De la Paz said several policemen were deployed in different festival sites to maintain the peace and order and to secure the safety of MassKara revelers, especially at the Bacolod Public Plaza and Lacson Street.

He said six persons were apprehended for theft, while three were nabbed for hold-ups, nine for physical injury, and 22 for alarm and scandal. Continue reading –>

MassKara foundation asked to restore aesthetics of public plaza

BACOLOD City Councilor Sonya Verdeflor has asked the Silver MassKara Festival Organization Inc. to ensure the full restoration of the aesthetics of the Bacolod Public Plaza, which was used as a festival site of the 33rd MassKara Festival.

Lawmaker runs unopposed for a third term

FOR a politician who was just thinking of running for yet another term, suddenly being yanked out and made to battle against a congressman who carries the name of a highly-respected local leader, Davao City’s Rep. Isidro T. Ungab is not doing bad.

Akbayan accused of being Aquino ‘lapdog’

The Akbayan party-list should be disqualified from joining the 2013 elections for being a “lapdog loyalist and a puppet” of the Aquino administration, multisectoral groups said Wednesday.

The groups headed by Archbishop Oscar Cruz, Kontra Daya’s Fr. Joe Dizon, and Bayan secretary general Renato Reyes Jr., filed a formal petition before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) seeking the disqualification of Akbayan, a party-list group established in 1998. Read the rest of this entry

Protégé champs, Party Pilipinas stars join MassKara Festival 2012 closing rites

THE two newly-proclaimed protégé champions and Party Pilipinas stars of GMA Kapuso Network were in Bacolod City yesterday to grace the closing ceremony of MassKara Festival Celebration at the Bacolod Public Plaza.

Thea Tolentino and Jeric Gonzales, who were adjudged as champions of Protégé Season 2 last Sunday, brought home P6 million worth of prices each. They also graced the opening of the Unigames at the University of St. La Salle yesterday.

Among the Final 6 protégé contenders, Tolentino and Gonzales topped the competition by displaying what they called as the “freshness” of their talents as artists, considering that it was Thea’s first entry into a talent search while Jeric’s only exposure was the Mr. Calamba Search where he won first runner-up. Rains fail to stop Masskara dance show

BACOLOD CITY — Students, parents and teachers brave the heavy downpour Saturday afternoon as the Masskara Street and Dance Competition School category proceeded as scheduled.

Eleven contingents from the elementary and secondary division participated in Saturday’s dance competition. Last year’s champion in the elementary division also bagged this year’s top award.

Grand champion during Saturday’s dance competition is from Sum-ag Elementary School, which also bagged the best in concept award. [Read more]
