AMLC backs more exceptions to foreign deposit law

THE Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) is in favor of a proposed law in the House of Representatives that would expand the exceptions on the disclosure of dollar deposits.

A week after former Chief Justice Renato Corona was convicted by the impeachment tribunal, the House Committee on Banks and Financial Intermediaries discussed on Tuesday House bills amending Republic Act (RA) 6426 or the Foreign Currency Deposit Act. (Read more)

Marquez: I won’t resign

FORMER Supreme Court spokesman Jose Midas Marquez turned down Tuesday calls for him to step down as court administrator, a position that he used to hold in a concurrent capacity during the aborted terms of ousted Chief Justice Renato Corona and retired Chief Justice Reynato Puno.

“Wala naman akong nakikita na rason para magbitiw (I find no reason to quit),” said Marquez on renewed calls made by the party-list group Akbayan. (Read more)
