BEFORE Davao became the city as we know it today, it underwent a lot of processes as history unfolds itself creating one of the most dynamic and one of the most-admired cities in the country today.
Based on the book “Davao: An Introduction to its History” by Ernesto I. Corcino, the very first historical account that has been recorded about Davao was in 1948, 50 years before the country has been liberated from the 333 years under Spanish rulers.

A TOTAL of five finalists were chosen from among the 12 semifinalists vying for the Mutya ng Dabaw 2012 title, were chosen Tuesday.
After going through a closed-door interview with the judges and presentation of talents at the SM City Davao Event Center, Maria Theresa Tan (22, AB-Communication Arts graduate of University of Immaculate Concepcion), Marianne Mae Te (21, AB- Hotel and Management graduate of Philippine Women’s College of Davao), Jazzel Therese Gomez (23, Magna Cum Laude graduate of AB Major in English Language from Far Eastern University), Dorothy Maruel Iba?ez (23, Nursing graduate of Ateneo de Davao University) and Jhoanna Myles Te (22, Bachelor of Science in Nursing Cum Laude graduate of San Pedro College) were chosen as the finalists.
The panel of judges include Anna Maris Igpit, Cebuana beauty queen who represented Philippines in the Miss World 2006; lawyer Jessie Melodias, vice president of Integrated Bar of the Philippines – Davao City chapter and Davao City General Services Office chief; Dr. Domilyn Vilareiz, Anti-Smoking task force co-chair; Lizette Marquez, executive director of Duaw Davao Festival Foundation Inc.; and Krista Kleiner, a Filipino-American who represented the country in the Miss International 2010 pageant in China.

FOR the first time, Davao City will commemorate its founding anniversary this year with a series of activities that will run for over a month than the usual practice of week-long festivities.
Rightly so, the city will be celebrating its diamond fiesta — the 75th Araw ng Dabaw celebration which local officials vowed to be more colorful and exciting for the Dabawenyos and the visitors to savor.
There a total of 36 activites lined up for this year’s celebration, which has a theme “Paghigugma sa nasud, pag-amuma sa siyudad (Love for the country, care for the city).
Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte-Carpio said she used the theme to put more great emphasis on highlighting the unique qualities of the people of Davao in all the activities prepared by the city.
